New Year, New You – 5 Beauty Resolutions for 2019

Yep–it’s that time of year again. The good news: out of all the New Year’s resolutions we make, our beauty declarations can actually be fun and easy to achieve. What could be more enjoyable than trying out some new trends, rituals or products that help us not only look better, but also feel better?

We’ve rounded up some of the beauty trends currently being touted to help you jumpstart the new year bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. We’ve focused our tips on making sure you start with a fresh, clean base.

  1. Get out of bed fresh-faced.

Say what? It’s simple. Take off your entire face of makeup every single night. Especially after the holiday party season, your skin is in need of some TLC. Some people like the pre-packaged wipes, while others prefer a deep cleanse. Many have taken to a combination approach and start with pre-moistened wipes which they follow up with a milk- or oil-based face cleansing product. Love your skin and it will love you back.

  1. Develop a moisturizing routine.

During the cold winter months your skin dries out and moisturizer is a necessity — not only in the morning, but in the evening as well. Do a little research and find one that works for your skin type. Make sure your morning moisturizer contains SPF; your evening moisturizer can be a slightly heavier, creamier formula. And remember, your daily SPF moisturizer needs to be applied 365 days a year – winter, spring, summer and fall.

  1. Clean your brushes.

What better way to detox your beauty collection and assure a fresh complexion than by cleaning your brushes? The importance of clean applicators is often overlooked or forgotten, but old brushes can cause your skin to become irritated and possibly infected. This step may seem boring, but by cleaning your brushes just twice a month you’ll be laying a healthy foundation for everything that follows.

  1. Out with the old, in with the new: Clean out your makeup collection!

Did you know most makeup products expire? Well if you didn’t know before, you know now. For instance mascara, once opened, lasts only about two to three months before it needs to be replaced. ‘Product’ tends to build up after awhile, so it’s important to clean out and replace your stash at least twice a year. Start the new year off strong and replace any products more than six months old.

  1. All clean? It’s time to have some fun.

With so many new skincare and makeup products on the market, the new year is a great time to sample some. Perhaps you can try out one of the new indie brands. New ones are popping up daily and they tend to be right on the cutting edge of what’s trendy and exciting.  A great place to learn about some of the new brands is Remember to focus on application as much as product choices, and apply your products in the correct order, letting each one absorb into your skin before applying the next one.

Happy 2019 to the new you!
